Adler Planetarium

 

Opened to the public in 1930, Adler Planetarium is the first institution of its type in the Western Hemisphere. Max Adler, retired senior officer of Sears, Roebuck and Company, presented the Planetarium as a gift to the city of Chicago in hopes to further the progress of science. Coldspring’s Polished Rainbow® granite clads the exterior of this historic landmark, which was designed to symbolize the months of the year and the signs of the zodiac. This granite is also used for other landscape feature including a Sun Dial sculpture, paving, curbing, bollards and planters.

Rainbow granite clads the exterior of this historic landmark. Rainbow granite is also featured as the base of the Man Enters the Cosmo Sundial located on the lakefront of the property. Exterior paving, bollards and planters utilizes Rainbow® granite.
