Maggie Lena Walker Memorial

The Maggie Walker Memorial is located in Richmond, VA in the Jackson Ward neighborhood. Maggie Walker was the first African American woman to charter a bank, and is an inspiration to women, African Americans and entrepreneurs alike. In the center of the memorial stands a bronze statue created by sculptor Toby Mendez of Walker on a Mountain Green® (Walker’s favorite color) granite base. Surrounding the statue are 10 granite benches inscribed with Walker’s legacy.

The entire memorial is surrounded with Charcoal Black®, Mesabi Black® and Sunset Beige pavers and curbing. The memorial was dedicated in July of 2017 and has served as a place for reflection and gathering since.
