Since 1853, Bayliss Park has been the centerpiece of Council Bluffs. Host to many public and private gatherings, the park has been the setting for many special memories over the years. In 2005, the city of Council Bluffs decided that its main city center needed a facelift. The renovation of the fountain and plaza was completed in 2006 and is a perfect blend of history and contemporary art. The fountain features a modern sculpture, created by artist Brower Hatcher, titled Well Spring.

Carnelian® granite was the material of choice for the fountain’s facing, edging and 18″ seat wall, which is accented with short columns or plinths.

Granite pavers, also in Carnelian®, are incorporated around the fountain. A performance pavilion on the east side of the plaza provides a site that invites community ceremonies and celebrations. For this space, a steel dome was constructed on top of four Carnelian® granite columns and a raised stage.

Carnelian granite was the material of choice for the fountain’s facing, edging, 18″ seat wall and plinths. Elaborate combinations of finishes were used for the fountain facing, edging and plaza paving.

All together, the plaza renovation utilized almost 10,000 square feet of granite.
